Description:
Families grow stronger when they serve together. Building Resilient Families Through Strengthening Others invites parents and children to rediscover the healing power of service, gratitude, and shared purpose. Rooted in research on resilience, prosocial behavior, and family cohesion (Duncan & Goddard, 2016; Walsh, 2016; Padilla-Walker & Nelson, 2010), this 90-minute workshop helps families transform compassion into action—creating meaningful traditions that build unity, empathy, and hope.

Through reflection, storytelling, and hands-on group collaboration, participants will:

  • Explore how acts of kindness and contribution nurture family resilience and emotional well-being

  • Learn how gratitude practices and community involvement protect against stress and burnout

  • Identify one sustainable family service project that aligns with their values and strengths

  • Discover how service rituals can strengthen identity, purpose, and family connection across generations

Participants will also hear real-life stories from My Perfect Body Now Fitness Boot Camps—including “Sit-Ups for Cents” and “Pennies for Push-Ups”—community challenges that raised funds for children with cancer and families in crisis. These examples illustrate how collective action unites families and communities through empathy and hope.

This session blends practical application with heartfelt storytelling, leaving families inspired to look outward, serve together, and grow closer in the process.

Includes:

  • A Family Service Reflection Audit (Pre/Post Self-Assessment)

  • An infographic: “5 Ways Service Builds Family Resilience”

  • A printable planning worksheet: “Designing Your Family Service Tradition”

  • A follow-up email with encouragement and next-step ideas for family service
